Hanis Cavin Executive Chef, Carnitas’ Snack Shack

Executive Chef Hanis Cavin was actually on his way to a successful career as an accomplished chef in high school when he took Home Economics. Recognized by his teacher for his exceptional culinary skills, Cavin enrolled at the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, Vermont, where he fine-tuned his natural-born cooking skills. But that’s getting ahead of the real story.

Even though he was great at cooking creative dishes, he took a job in construction after high school graduation. Not feeling fulfilled career-wise in the building aspect of life, he (fortunately for all of us) realized his true calling in life: to become a chef.
This career choice not only made Cavin happy, his friends and family were elated. His hungry friends and excited family especially appreciated his talent in the kitchen as Cavin could, would and loved to whip up delicious dishes with most anything in a refrigerator!

Thus, Cavin’s culinary creativity, innovative vision and professional excellence reached his most recent pinnacle of performance by being the recipient of the “2009 Chef of the Year” Award which commends his extraordinary culinary flair and prudent dedication to quality dining. This notable Award truly reflects Cavin’s culinary brilliance and his avid devotion to the guest experience.

Cavin was the Executive Chef at the Kensington Grill from 2007-2011.  Cavin will be opening a new restaurant very soon!  Carnitas’ Snack Shack will be located at 2632 University Avenue.
